Daughter of the Moon

Daughter of the Moon

Last night, under the cloudless sky,
The ivory moon glowing from the sun's sheen,
Fast asleep in the bosom of the mountains,
I had a peculiar dream.

This dream was like none other, so unique
Better than any I've ever had.
This dream got my heart racing so fast,
Made me laugh with glee, and made me ever so sad.

It was a cold and starry night,
The chill was battling with the wind.
The creatures of the night were calling out,
The darkness engulfing me, like a silent fiend.

And up to the twinkling stars, I looked with despair
For the mistakes I made, left my life in a mess
And twinkling stars, dancing ever so gaily
Looked down mockingly, laughing at my loneliness.

And then suddenly I could feel a vibe,
Down my very spine, went a chill.
The starry sky grew eerie, at the moon
I looked, and the sight made me shudder with thrill.

The white disc in the sky was so shiny and bright,
With straining eyes, I saw a white dress
And adorned with sparkling jewels and pearls,
Emerged a star-studded goddess.

She looked at me with knowing eyes,
While mine were shimmering in awe.
The angel, nothing more beautiful than her,
Was perfect, not even a tiny flaw.

And down she flew to the lonely boy,
And held his hand up high.
And wiping his tears away, she said
"Come on", and the two glided into the sky.

The boy flew with the lovely maiden
He looked at her with disbelieving eyes.
She took the lost boy with authority
Into the oblivious skies.

As they ghosted over the landscapes,
The valleys, the trees, the mountains and lakes,
He kept looking at her, in love with her
He stared without a break.

And then the maiden sang to the boy,
Of life, Universe and beyond.
As the light of knowledge cleared his vision,
Stronger and stronger grew their bond.

He held on tightly as they flew away,
Exploring and discovering new things.
He gazed in awe at the beautiful sights
And the treasures that nature brings.

He smiled at the beautiful maiden that night
With the purest love and gratitude.
The maiden smiled back at the boy,
For she had broken his solitude.

And just when it seemed like it would never end,
The maiden began to slow down.
And they hovered in space for a little while
Before lowering to the ground.

He could now see the sorrow in her eyes.
"Sorry," she said, "I have to go."
And she bent over the boy slowly
And kissed him softly on his eyebrow.

The boy sobbing, fighting back tears,
As she flew, behind her he ran.
But then he stopped, and sadly waved back
For now, he was a man.

The spot where he had been kissed
Now wore a shiny crescent moon.
And even as she flew into the heavens
The mark shone like a boon.

She'd taught him so much, he knew inside.
He sadly waved back, like the father of a bride.
For she was going, and there was nothing he could do
Just tearfully wave, pushing sorrows aside.

He loved her much, but had to let go.
The night would get over soon.
He bore her mark as she waved goodbye
For he loved the daughter of the moon.
