Belief

Like a sword in a losing battle
Relentlessly inspiring to give all you've got.
But you can never be sure,
Which side is sharp, which is not.

It can pull an entire nation out of darkness
Giving light and warmth like the sun.
Lifting you out of quicksand, but still
It can put you in an even deeper one.

Giving courage even in dark times.
Like the light at the end of a cave.
But could that be a mirage, you see
Helping you step into your own grave.

Was it belief that killed Goliath?
Or was it really a petty shepherd boy?
Or did belief cloud the judgement,
Of the mighty Helen of Troy?

The truth is all great events in this world,
Would've been impossible without belief.
Like a knight in shining armor it came
And gave hope in times of grief.

For nothing can be accomplished without it
Like a maze, you can never leave.
Without the compass of hope
All you have to do is believe.
