Beast of Burden

Beast of Burden

Oh poor beast of burden
How tragic is your life
Bound to carry weight forever
Your dreams can never take flight

Chained to your master always
How truly pitiful is that
His whip held at the ready
One wrong move, and Whack!

Oh poor beast of burden
If only you were a little bright
You could've make your own choices
You'd be in control of your life

From day to night you slog alone
No end to the misery in sight
You're destined to lead this pitiful life
Only winter brings you respite

The beast snorts and shakes his head
His mane shimmering in the sunlight
Oh young one , do you not see
How you and I are alike?

My weight comes off at the end of the day
Atleast I sleep in peace
But you carry the burden of hope,
Anxieties weigh over your dreams

I do have a master, yes
Who's kind only when I behave
But society dictates you the same way
You're nothing but a slave.

This intelligence that you wear with pride
The epitome of your existence, oh human
Is just like the blinders Im forced to wear
Freedom of choice, is but an illusion

Atleast in winters I get to rest
You're forever pushed by your greed
There is no end to your madness in sight
Your wants tower over your needs

Alas, we're both beasts of burden
By destiny are were both bound
You can flail and fight as much as you want
But soon, you'll come around

The beast snorts and shakes his head
His mane shimmering in the sunlight
Oh young one , do you not see
How you and I are alike?
